Marie-Louise Brulatour Mills
Marie-Louise Brulatour Mills started drawing at 8 years old when she presented a drawing of Hopalong Cassidy to her Mother in her native Manhattan home. Her interest in horses increased when she started riding at Kenilworth stables near the family’s summer home in Rye, New York.
During her early teens years she trained in jumping and dressage at Boulder Brook Stables in Scarsdale New York. This brought her into the international arena at Madison Square Garden . She earned the accolade of Third in the nation in A.H.S.A High Score Awards, in 1960, and 1961. The artist was asked to train for the US Equestrian Team, but declined as her passions included art, music and history, prompted her to became a Ph.D. in Medieval history instead, while playing the harpsichord badly.
She was awarded the Texas State Citation for her “Flag” series, the coveted Prix de Petrach in Paris, for her large bas relief of Petrarch ,and the First prize for Columbus Centennial Award for a blind embossing of Columbus in Rome.
As a journalist she achieved the top award for the Best Foreign Sports journalist during Rome’s International Horse Show and for her daily stories for the International Courrier, Rome’s English language newspaper.
Since then she has had shows in Paris, Venice Palm Beach, Normandy, Sardinia, London, Edinburgh, Rome and New York.
The watercolor and oil painter links her academic training with her subjects such as “Frederic II The Holy Roman Emperor” ,“Women of The Old Testament” ,“Venice and the Islamic World “ in oils, and her recent watercolor show in Palm Beach of “Dogs as Historic Characters” at Jenny Garrigues Gallery and her newest gold leaf series, “Golden Dreams” at Spectrum in Art Basel Miami.
